Dock Intranet Portal has come out with its latest addition to the product gallery, Dock Modern Intranet.

The modern version is much more than a fresh look, it is a whole new experience.  Users are in for an experience that is futuristic, compelling, flexible, and user-friendly.

Having a SharePoint Intranet Portal has become a necessity for every organization that focuses on improving employee engagement, collaboration and ultimately productivity.  With SharePoint on-premise versions, servers were the lifeblood for intranet portals. Well, not anymore. All thanks to the cloud version, you no longer need intranet servers, IT teams to maintain servers, software patches/updates.

Built on SharePoint Online and powered by SharePoint Modern interface, our team has come up with Dock Modern comprising of two exciting solutions namely Dock Modern Lite and Dock Modern Enterprise.

Without further ado, let’s dive right in:

Dock Modern Vs Classic

Homepage Layout

With Dock Modern, users can easily customize the homepage in just few clicks as you can drag and drop the web parts to create a layout of your choice. While using the classic version, users will come across web part zones in the layout, which may cause trouble in case the user accidentally edits the zones.

Page Performance

Compared to classic, the modern version not only offers an unmatched user experience, but the page performance is amazing too. On an average internet connectivity, the page load time for Dock Modern is 10 seconds whereas it is 50 seconds for the classic version.

Power BI

If you are into banking, marketing, logistics, retail then Power BI is something you can’t live without. The modern version enables you to easily embed Power BI whereas for Dock Classic you would need to a developer to configure it.

PowerApps and Microsoft Forms

We all know that PowerApps have made it easier to create apps even for people with no prior knowledge of coding. All you need is the ability to drag and drop. These power packed PowerApps cannot be embedded in Dock Classic as only the links can be provided. That’s sad, I know but the good news is you can easily embed these in the Modern version.

Further, Microsoft forms can be easily integrated with modern, but this feature is not available for the classic version.

Event Calendars

When using Dock Modern, events can be downloaded and saved on your Outlook or Google Calendar. In addition, you can also add locations powered Bing maps easily. These features are not available in the Dock Classic version.

Web Parts

When it comes to Dock Classic, web parts are part of zones, which the developers need to work on. Whereas modern web parts are easy to configure with drag and drop feature.

 Employee Directory

Dock modern comes with an advanced layout wherein users can change different views as per their choice.  Whereas classic comes with just one view.

Responsive Design

Unlike classic, mobile responsiveness is an in-built feature in Dock Modern offering a seamless user experience. Since the classic version is not fully responsive you would need the help of a UX designer to make the custom page layouts fully responsive.

Future Updates

With the ever-changing and growing cloud environment, users demand for modern intranet on SharePoint that is not just a CMS solution but an all-inclusive digital workplace.  Understanding the same, we will soon be launching a Project Portal with new and improved UI. Also, the HR portal will come with two new features namely Leave Management and Goal Management.
