How to Create a SharePoint List from Excel in 6 Steps (Microsoft 365)

To create a SharePoint list from Excel, go to your SharePoint Online site, click + New > List > From Excel, upload your .xlsx file, review the auto-detected column names and data types, then click Create. SharePoint imports your spreadsheet data as a structured list with each Excel column becoming a SharePoint list column. The process takes under 10 minutes and requires no coding. Your Excel file must have column headers in row 1 and be saved in .xlsx format. Merged cells and blank header rows will cause import errors. This feature is available in SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365) and SharePoint Server 2019 and later.
